This course explores the psychological and emotional impact of learning difficulties on areas such as emotional regulation, self-esteem, motivation, behaviour, and social interaction. It explains how unresolved emotional challenges may interfere with engagement in learning and contribute to increased psychological distress over time.
The course emphasizes the importance of psychological therapy as a complementary component to educational interventions, rather than a substitute for them. Psychological support is presented as an important means of promoting emotional balance, strengthening coping skills, and encouraging adaptive behaviours. The course also highlights the critical role of early and continuous psychological intervention in preventing the escalation of emotional and mental health difficulties.
Participants will be introduced to key psychological concepts such as emotional regulation, psychological resilience, coping strategies, and psychological well-being. The course emphasizes that mental health is a dynamic construct influenced by context, and that emotional responses to learning difficulties may vary across developmental stages and different environments.
By the end of the course, participants will have developed a clear conceptual framework for understanding the psychological needs of individuals with learning difficulties, as well as the role of psychological therapy in supporting psychological well-being, social adjustment, and active engagement in learning experiences.
