Dr. Maha Al-Hendawi, Ph.D.
Professor of Special Education, Qatar University
Dr. Maha Al-Hendawi is a Professor of Special Education at Qatar University and a nationally and internationally recognized scholar in the fields of learning disabilities, inclusive education, behavioral assessment, and educational reform. She earned her Ph.D. in Special Education and Disability Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University and has held several senior leadership roles at Qatar University, including Director of the Foundation Program and Director of the Core Curriculum Program.
Dr. Al-Hendawi has led and secured multiple nationally funded research projects, with a strong focus on special education, early literacy, psychological well-being, assistive technology, and inclusive practices in the Gulf region. Her work has been published extensively in high-ranking international journals, and she serves in key editorial, accreditation, and consultancy roles, including as a registered reviewer for institutional accreditation and an Associate Editor for the Journal of International Special Needs Education.
A frequent invited speaker at regional and international conferences, Dr. Al-Hendawi is deeply committed to advancing evidence-based practice, strengthening teacher preparation, and enhancing educational opportunities for students with disabilities across the Arab world.
