This course examines the fundamental components of thinking, including analytical thinking, logical reasoning, causal reasoning, problem solving, strategic thinking, and creative thinking. It explains how difficulties in these areas may manifest in learners’ academic performance, classroom participation, and everyday learning behaviours. The course also emphasizes that thinking difficulties may appear independently or may co-occur with other learning difficulties.
In addition, the course explores the influence of emotional, environmental, and instructional factors on thinking processes. It highlights the importance of supportive learning environments, appropriate teaching strategies, and ongoing assessment in identifying and addressing thinking difficulties. Particular attention is given to structured approaches for supporting learners through explicit instruction, guided practice, and targeted educational interventions.
By the end of the course, participants will have developed a clear understanding of the characteristics of thinking difficulties and their educational implications. The course provides a knowledge base that helps teachers, specialists, and practitioners recognize thinking difficulties and support learners in developing more effective thinking skills within educational environments.
