This course presents a comprehensive overview of therapeutic intervention approaches for individuals with ADHD, emphasizing that effective intervention requires systematic, long-term, and multidisciplinary strategies designed to reduce symptoms and enhance functioning in academic, social, emotional, and everyday life contexts.
The course examines the rationale for integrating pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, highlighting that while medication can help regulate core symptoms, it does not represent a comprehensive treatment when used alone. Participants will also explore the neurological foundations of ADHD, including the role of brain structures and neurotransmitters involved in attention regulation and executive functioning. The course emphasizes the importance of medical supervision, monitoring, and adherence to ethical considerations when pharmacological treatments are used.
In addition, the course reviews key psychological, behavioural, cognitive, and educational intervention approaches. These include behaviour modification strategies, reinforcement techniques, self-regulation training, and the development of planning, organizational, and memory skills. Educational interventions are also examined, with a focus on structuring the classroom environment, reducing distractions, maintaining consistency in teaching practices, and implementing individualized educational plans.
The course further highlights the importance of family involvement and parent training in supporting behavioural consistency and sustaining intervention outcomes. It also explores the role of physical activity, play-based activities, and environmental adjustments in supporting behavioural and emotional regulation.
Participants will also be introduced to the frameworks of primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention, which aim to reduce risk factors and minimize the long-term impact of ADHD. The course emphasizes the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration, professional documentation, and long-term follow-up to ensure the effectiveness and continuity of intervention.
By the end of the course, participants will have developed a comprehensive understanding of the principles and methods of therapeutic intervention for ADHD, with a focus on improving quality of life, enhancing functional adaptation, and supporting long-term adjustment for individuals with the disorder.
